Please take a moment to look through our website as there have been many changes over the past year! Viola DeWalt High School has a very rich history and our campus continues to evolve as we find improved ways to support our students.
This first year as The Academy has been very exciting and successful! With our smaller learning environments and restorative justice practices, our campus is thriving. Our 117 students have created a positive peer atmosphere that is truly unique.
There are so many things taking place on and off campus with our students. We have an active Student Council and Yearbook class, and our mentoring program, “Bear Buddies”, is up and running in partnership with the James H. Baker 6th grade campus. Several of our students volunteer at the La Porte Animal Shelter in their spare time and we are in the process of partnering with Parson’s House for additional volunteer opportunities as well. During enrichment time, students have the opportunity to play basketball, board games, or be involved in several groups around campus such as robotics, short films, gaming, and chess. This year we will be hosting our first ever junior and senior prom as well!
Through our smaller learning environments, we are able to focus on the specific academic needs for individual students. Students are able to catch up on lost credits or accelerate at their pace for initial credit. We offer dual enrollment and technical certifications through our partnership with San Jacinto Community College as well.
Please do not hesitate to contact our campus for additional information. Application deadlines for the 2019-2020 school year are approaching fast!
I look forward to speaking with all of you about how The Academy can impact your student’s high school career and beyond.
In ourselves our future lies…from here, it’s possible.
