Dear Dragons and Families,
Welcome back—and a special welcome to those joining us for the first time—at the Academy of Viola DeWalt High School! We are thrilled to begin the 2025-26 school year as part of the vibrant La Porte Independent School District (LPISD), a community that values each student’s potential, embraces every background, and strives for excellence in all we do.
Our mission remains steadfast: to engage all students and empower them to become informed, compassionate global citizens.
Our intentionally small size means you are known, supported, and challenged. Each student benefits from personalized attention, flexible schedules, and meaningful relationships with teachers who care deeply about your success and well-being.
We understand that some students thrive best in a learning environment built with compassion, structure, and academic flexibility. That’s exactly what we offer—a space where students can catch up, accelerate, and prepare for life after graduation at their own pace—and with confidence.
Looking ahead to 2025-26, we’re focusing on:
- Academic pathways that enable students to meet graduation requirements, explore electives, earn dual-credit courses, and prepare for post-secondary success.
- Expanded supports, including tutoring, test prep, technology tools, and partnerships with San Jacinto College and local community organizations.
- Safety and well-being reinforced through regular drills, anti-bullying programming, and restorative practices, all designed to cultivate a respectful and secure campus environment.
- Community and parent partnerships to ensure student success through your vital involvement.
To our returning students—welcome back! To those new to DeWalt—welcome to the Dragon Family. This is more than a high school—it is a place where supportive community, rigorous academics, and personal development intersect.
Let’s embark on this year together—driven by purpose, compassion, and possibility. I encourage you to approach each day with courage, curiosity, and connection. When we come together as students, families, and staff, amazing things happen.
Here’s to a year of growth, achievement, and meaningful community. Go Dragons!
Warm regards,
Tremayne Wickliffe
